Johnny's Gargantuan, Rolling Meme of Doom! **updated**

Johnny's Gargantuan, Rolling Meme of Doom! (Thanks Michelle for letting me know that I missed a question!)

1) Read the meme that was dumped assigned to you. Answer the questions.
2) Add TWO new questions to the list. Answer those questions.
3) Forward Dump this onto the next blogger victim (and list their name and link to their blog).
4) This series will conclude when we get 50 questions - so yes, it's 25 bloggers in the chain.
5) Please make sure that the next victim in the "link" doesn't have a password protected blog.
[Optional 6] Update the links so people can follow along (this is similar to the method I used in the Why China series).
[Optional 7] When you see an update, down the chain, update your own page with the new questions and answers.
[Optional 8] Copy these micromanaging instructions into the top of your meme post.

1. What secret/surprising/personal goal (that is realistically achievable within the next 15 years) would you like to fulfill?

To be able to work from home doing something I really enjoy. Like many others, I would love to be a stay at home mom but I know Shawn is worried about being the sole income earner. He's been laid off a couple of times during the tech bust and I think that's always at the forefront of his mind. If I can work from home, then he wouldn't have to worry so much about it and I would have the flexibility that I would need.

2. Can you list an event in which you made a last minute decision or guess that significantly changed the path of your life?

When I was in high school choosing universities, I had my heart set on one then ended up changing my mind to my second choice. If I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have met my friends who eventually introduced me to Shawn.

3. What is one unrealistic goal (but your total secret dream) that you would love to come true, but are pretty sure it won't ever happen?

I would love to be an interior decorator. The problem is I'm not creative enough. I watch HGTV and envy the designers that come up with gorgeous ideas on a whim. It takes me forever to decide what I want to do with my home.

4. Who has had the most influence on your life and what did they teach you?

My mom. She taught me about love, sacrifice, patience, compassion and forgiving (I'm still trying to master the last one). She was the most giving person I ever knew. She accepted all my friends into our home and never said anything negative about them. I wish I could be like her.

5. You are on a deserted island. You are stranded with someone from any point in time for 2 months (they are coming to rescue you but are busy right now). Other then family/friends/naval engineers, who is it?

Hmmm...only one person, that's tough. It would have to be Mike Holmes. He's a contractor who has a show on HGTV who helps people when they're renovations have gone wrong. He would be able to build us a beautiful house with all the modern day necessities so we wouldn't be exposed to the elements.

6. Name and describe 3 things on your mind lately. Is there any particular reason why you're thinking about a particular thing?

1. Work. I hate it. I need to find something else to do. I'm working on it but it's not coming as quickly as I would like. Working for someone who knows everything even though they just graduated from school last year is tough.

2. The adoption, or better put, the lack thereof. Everything is slowing down so much, it just doesn't feel like it's ever going to happen. Like so many others, we're ready to be parents now but yet again, those roadblocks keep popping up.

3. Family. I've been trying to figure out the meaning of family, especially in our case where we're a family that's not connected by blood or a shared history or genetics. Our family will be put together by legal documents.

7. If you could go back to one moment in time and change it, what would the moment be and what would you change it from and to?

In 2003 when we found out we would have to do IVF to have children. In hindsight, we should have started the adoption process back then and not bothered with all the treatments. If we had, we would've had at least one child by now.

8. What is your biggest pet peeve and is there anything that you can do to stop other people from doing it?

There are lots. One of my biggest pet peeve is when people don't let me get a word in edgewise to explain myself. It's been happening a lot lately and it really ticks me off.

9. Who has been the most influential teacher in your life and why did he or she have such an impact on you? Have you sent them a note?

My grade 9 math teacher Mr. B. For the first time in my life, I had a teacher that was able to explain complicated math to my pea brain and I actually got a decent grade. He even tutored me in grade 10 when I was having difficulty with math. Because of him, I knew that if I really put my mind to something, I could do it. Hey, if I could get an A in math, I could do anything.

10. What three things do you regret not learning to do?

I regret not learning to cook all the amazing Spanish dishes my mom use to make.
I regret not learning to drive when I turned sixteen, I'm now terrified of doing so.
I regret not learning to crochet/knit. My mom and grandma use to crochet and knit all the time, I would like to continue the tradition.

11. What is your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is loosing yet someone else that I love. I've lost 4 people in the past 8 years. I can not loose someone else.

12. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would be thin again. I've been putting on a lot of weight in the past few years and in the past year I have just not been able to get myself motivated enough to start working out again. But I will, soon.

O.k. here is the link chain as per Johnny's Command: Q 1&2 - So it's Come Down to This, Q 3&4 - Our Journey to China, Q 5&6 - 3 D's Adoption Journey, Q 7&8 - Waiting for Pumpkin, Q 9&10 - Two Kayaks Q 11&12 - Watch Our Family Grow, Q 13&14 - Journey to Little Maple

It is hard to go back and change things. But interesting to think about the way the paths will take us in different directions because of the choices we make.

I Just left a comment but it did not appear for some reason. Blogger is playing tricks on me today.
I wanted to tell you that I loved reading your answers and that I think you know in your heart what constitutes "family". Your sweet mom epitomized that for you.

Sounds like your Mom was a lovely lady - actually, sounds like she was alot like my Grandma (never said a bad word about anyone). A saint!!

I know I sound like a broken record, but hang in there with this snails-pace adoption. It'll happen!!!
