This summer...

We are going to see Michael Buble in concert! I'm so excited! I've wanted to see him in concert for a long time and I finally got wind that he will be in town this summer. I jumped online today and purchased the tickets. I know it's still quite a few months away but it gives me something to look forward to.

And you want to know the best part? The concert is three days before my birthday. What a great way to celebrate! Did I mention I'm excited?

It's time for Hannukah! Tonight begins the Festival of Lights so for the next eight days Shawn and I will be lighting our menorah and eating sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts).

Enjoy one of the original Hannukah carols around :).

Weekend celebrations

The celebrations started on Friday. We went to Shelley and Harold's for a communal birthday party. There are a lot of summer birthdays in Shawn's family so to make things easier, Shelley holds one big party for everyone. It was great getting together with everyone being able to laugh and joke around with everyone. Always fun.

On Saturday, we went to my cousin's place to celebrate his little girl's Rachel's birthday. She is now a grand total of four years old. I still remember when she was born. We were trying to decide if we should go to the hospital or wait until they got home. Rachel was born at the tail end of the SARS epidemic and we weren't sure if they were letting people into the hosptial or not that didn't need to be there. We ended up waiting until they got home. I remember thinking how little she was. My mom loved holding her too. She was in her element with babies (she did have four kids after all). Now she's starting kindergarten in September.

In the evening we went over to our Natasha and Deepesh's house as today is Natasha's birthday, so I'd like to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!". Natasha's brother was there with his little girls and the older one, C, fell in love with Shawn. She wouldn't leave his side and insisted that he read her stories, play soccer with her and go for a walk with her. It was very cute.

Then on Sunday was my big day! We invited friends and family over for my 21st birthday (don't laugh!). I love having people over at our place, I go all Martha Stewart trying to make everything "just so". It's a sickness, yes but I enjoy it. We had a BBQ with all the trimmings! I must give a big thank you to Shawn who organized the BBQ and got everybody over to our place, including Kathy and Joel, K1 and K2, Rhonda and Josh and Lisa, Craig and their Special K. It was so great seeing them again.

Here are some pictures from the big day.

Weekend Recap

What a crazy weekend we had! The whole weekend revolved around festivities celebrating this great country that we live in.

On Saturday we went to Kathy and Joel's for a BBQ. We finally got to meet Bear. He's a lot bigger than he looks in his pictures but oh so cute! We also finally got to meet Doris as she and Miss Daisy made their way down the 401 to join us. Dan couldn't make it this time, hopefully next time we'll be able to get them both in the same room. What a riot Doris is! She gave us cute little curly hair clips (that I will take a picture of and post shortly) for the peanut. Shawn instantly fell in love with Daisy as he is seriously dog deprived right now (he's more of a dog person than I am).

Also in attendance were Catherine, Rhonda and Josh, Jill, Jaap and Adriana and we got to meet Laurie, Jamie and Sophie. The two girls got along so well and played very nicely with each other the whole day. Here are some highlights:

The tattoo sisters (Doris and Adriana).

Adriana and Sophie ready for a spin on Lake Ontario.

The cake that Rhonda and Josh brought over, kinda appropriate.

The whole gang (almost, guess who's missing).

On Sunday, Shawn and I made our way over to my best friend's place for another BBQ. Latila had just purchased a BBQ so we went over to break it in. Shawn helped out by taking over the BBQ and making lunch/dinner for everyone. We then went to a park when it got dark to go watch the fireworks and of course, they were spectacular as they always are. I love fireworks, they remind me of when we were little. Hannah, Latila's daughter was freaking out a bit during the fireworks but then she got excited about it, calmed down and enjoyed herself.

On Monday we went to Glen Eden Conservation Park with Shawn's friend and his family. Once again it was a great time. The area we were in was pretty secluded so weren't around too much noise. Guess what we ate...more BBQ! Needless to say we're all BBQ'ed out.

Back at work today, tired as anything but what a blast we had.

Celebrating good times

Just like Kool and the Gang ordered. We've been having great celebrations the past couple of days. On Thursday I got a call on my cell phone at work and on the screen it said "Home Calling". This caused me some anxiety as the only one at home that I knew of was Jazz and I don't think she's mastered using the phone. It was Mark, Isabel and Lucas! They had made the long trek from Barbados where Mark's brother recently got married, back home then to our place in two days. I was very surprised to see them on Thursday, I thought they'd be by on Friday so it was really nice having them over a day earlier. I'd been having such a crummy week when I saw the gang I started crying right in the middle of Chuck E. Cheese. It was the first time I'd seen Mark since my mom's funeral and the first time I saw him since he returned from Afghanistan. It was great seeing them again. It's always a blast seeing Lucas and of course he was very excited to see Tita and Tito Shawn.

Friday night we all went out to Tony Roma's for dinner with the whole gang including my Aunt, and my cousins Manny and Johnny since it was also Johnny's birthday. The best part of the eveing was during dessert, when Lucas went to sit beside Manny as he was eating his ice cream. Lucas placed a genlte hand on Manny's arm, looked him in the eye and said "Can I have your ice cream?". At least he's not shy.

On Saturday we had our family and friends over to continue the celebration. We were very happy that Rhonda and Josh, Michelle and Lisa, Craig and Kaileigh. Mark was at home sick, suffering from a very bad head cold and his presence was very much missed. Hope you're feeling better soon. I hope everyone had a good time. It was great having everyone over, including Jeff and his girlfriend Vicki, Kristy, who did a great job watching Lucas while we were getting things ready, Latila who was such a trooper and came over sick, Jon who came over even though he'd spent the entire day working.

I would like to thank everyone who came over last night to help us celebrate Shawn's birthday. We had a great time and hope you all did too.

I still have to download the pictures from my camera and I'm waiting for pictures from other people too.
